About the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 EC5A
The eighth-generation Galant VR-4 (EC5A) marked the final evolution of Mitsubishi's high-performance saloon lineage. Moving away from the rally-homologated four-cylinder engines of its predecessors, it adopted a smooth 2.5-litre twin-turbo V6 that officially met the Japanese 'Gentlemen's Agreement' limit of 280 PS. It is technically significant for introducing Active Yaw Control (AYC), a torque-vectoring rear differential that would later become a hallmark of the Lancer Evolution series. While more refined and heavier than the contemporary Evo, the VR-4 offered a compelling blend of all-weather traction and understated executive styling.
