About the Mitsubishi Celeste

Introduced in 1975 as a replacement for the Galant FTO, the Mitsubishi Celeste (often badged as the Colt Celeste in Europe) was a sleek fastback based on the Lancer A70 platform. It was designed to capture the 'pony car' aesthetic with its long bonnet and sloping rear, competing directly with the Toyota Celica and Nissan Silvia. The 1.6 ST variant utilised the reliable 4G32 'Saturn' engine, which featured Mitsubishi's 'Silent Shaft' technology to reduce vibration. While not a powerhouse, its lightweight rear-wheel-drive chassis and sharp 1970s styling have made it a rare and increasingly sought-after classic for Japanese car enthusiasts.
