About the MG GS
The MG GS marked a significant turning point for the brand as its first production SUV, designed to compete in the highly contested compact crossover segment. Developed under SAIC ownership, it utilised a platform shared with the Roewe RX5 and featured a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine co-developed with General Motors. While it lacked the heritage of MG's classic roadsters, it offered a spacious cabin and sharp, contemporary styling directed by Anthony Williams-Kenny. In the UK market, it was positioned as a value-driven alternative to the Nissan Qashqai, though it was eventually succeeded by the more refined MG HS.
