About the Mercedes-AMG E 63 W211
The W211-generation E 63 AMG marked a significant shift for Mercedes-AMG, replacing the supercharged E 55 with the first engine designed entirely in-house by AMG. The 6.2-litre M156 V8 is celebrated for its high-revving nature and linear power delivery, offering a sharper, more motorsport-inspired character than its predecessor. While it lacks the low-end torque surge of the supercharged cars, its 7,200 rpm redline and vocal exhaust note make it a favourite among purists. As a facelifted W211, it also benefits from improved electronics and the more responsive 7G-Tronic transmission, though maintenance of the Airmatic suspension and early M156 head bolts remains a key consideration for collectors.
