About the Mazda BT-50
The first-generation Mazda BT-50, launched in 2006 as a successor to the B-Series, was developed in partnership with Ford and shared its platform with the contemporary Ranger. The 2.5-litre MZR-CD common-rail diesel engine was a highlight, offering significantly more refinement and torque than the older B2500 units. While primarily a commercial vehicle, the 2008 facelift introduced a more car-like interior with improved materials and ergonomics to appeal to lifestyle buyers. It is highly regarded by collectors and tradespeople alike for its mechanical durability and impressive 3,000kg towing capacity.

Mazda BT-50 fun facts
- The BT-50 was never sold in the North American market to avoid competing with the domestic Ford Ranger and Mazda's own B-Series trucks.
- Despite being a rugged utility vehicle, the BT-50's front-end styling was intentionally designed to mimic Mazda's passenger cars like the Tribute and Mazda6.
- The 2.5-litre engine features a variable-geometry turbocharger, which helps it deliver peak torque at just 1,800 rpm.
