About the Lancia Montecarlo
The Lancia Montecarlo (Series 2) arrived in 1980 following a production hiatus to address braking issues found in the earlier Beta Montecarlo. Distinguished by its glazed rear buttresses and 14-inch wheels, it retained the mid-mounted 2.0-litre Lampredi twin-cam engine, offering balanced handling and a pure driving experience. Though not a powerhouse, its lightweight chassis and Pininfarina styling made it a sophisticated alternative to the Fiat X1/9. It is most famous for providing the structural basis for the legendary Group B Lancia 037 rally car.
