About the Lancia Gamma
The Lancia Gamma Coupé, designed by Aldo Brovarone at Pininfarina, is widely regarded as one of the most elegant silhouettes of the 1970s. The Series 2 'IE' models introduced Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection, which improved the reliability and drivability of the unusual all-alloy overhead-cam flat-four engine. Despite its front-wheel-drive layout, the Gamma offered a refined grand touring experience with a low centre of gravity and excellent ride quality. It remains a connoisseur's choice, though its reputation was historically marred by cooling issues and a notorious design flaw where the power steering pump was driven by the left-hand camshaft belt.

Lancia Gamma fun facts
- The Gamma's flat-four engine was the largest of its type in a post-war production car until the arrival of the Porsche 912E.
- A notorious design flaw meant that turning the steering to full lock when the engine was cold could cause the cambelt to jump, potentially destroying the engine.
- Only 6,789 Coupés were produced out of the total Gamma production run, making it significantly rarer than the Berlina saloon.
