About the IKCO Samand
The IKCO Samand was launched in 2002 as Iran's first 'national car', designed to replace the ageing Paykan. It is built on the Peugeot 405 platform and utilizes the XU7JP engine, a combination chosen for its durability and ease of maintenance in the Middle Eastern climate. While the underpinnings are French, the body design and many components were developed locally by Iran Khodro. It served as a significant symbol of industrial independence for Iran and was exported to several countries including Russia, Belarus, and Turkey.
