About the Humber Imperial
Launched in 1964 as the flagship of the Rootes Group, the Humber Imperial was a more opulent evolution of the Super Snipe Series V. It was designed to compete with the Rover P5 and Jaguar MkX, featuring a coachbuilt interior by Thrupp & Maberly and advanced 'Selectaride' adjustable rear dampers. The Imperial was distinguished by its vinyl roof, West of England cloth or leather upholstery, and standard automatic transmission. As the final large Humber before Chrysler's takeover led to the marque's decline, it remains a symbol of 1960s British executive transport, famously used by Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
