About the Geely MK
The Geely MK, also known as the King Kong in its domestic market, was a significant model for the Chinese manufacturer as it transitioned from reverse-engineering older platforms to developing its own designs. Launched in 2006, it was powered by a 1.5-litre engine heavily inspired by Toyota's A-series units, offering basic but reliable transportation. The MK was exported to numerous emerging markets, including Russia, South Africa, and parts of South America, serving as a budget-friendly alternative to established Japanese and European B-segment cars. While it lacked refinement and modern safety standards by Western measures, it played a crucial role in establishing Geely's global manufacturing footprint.
