About the Ford Versailles
The Ford Versailles was a premium saloon developed for the South American market during the Autolatina era, a joint venture between Ford and Volkswagen. Based on the Volkswagen Santana (Passat B2) platform, it replaced the Ford Del Rey and featured distinct Ford-styled front and rear fascias to differentiate it from its VW sibling. The 2.0-litre models utilised the robust Volkswagen AP-2000 engine, known for its reliability and decent torque. It was positioned as a luxury executive car in Brazil, offering a smoother ride and more refined interior than the contemporary Ford Escort.

Ford Versailles fun facts
- The Versailles was also sold as the Volkswagen Santana, but Ford added unique body panels and a different interior to appeal to their traditional customer base.
- A station wagon version was produced alongside the saloon, which Ford named the Royale; it was initially only available as a three-door to avoid direct competition with the five-door VW Quantum.
- The 1992 model year was significant as it introduced electronic fuel injection to the 2.0-litre engine, replacing the carburettor for better efficiency and performance.
