About the Chevrolet Beretta
The Chevrolet Beretta was introduced for the 1987 model year as a sleek, front-wheel-drive alternative to traditional compacts, sharing its L-body platform with the Corsica sedan. Designed in the same studio as the Camaro and Corvette, it featured distinctive B-pillar door handles and a 'shark-like' profile that was remarkably aerodynamic for its time. The 1990 model year saw the introduction of the 2.2-litre engine, replacing the earlier 2.0-litre unit to provide better low-end torque for daily driving. While the high-performance GTZ and Indy editions garner more collector interest, the base 2.2 remains a quintessential example of GM's mass-market engineering from the era.

Chevrolet Beretta fun facts
- The Beretta's door handles were uniquely mounted on the B-pillar, a design choice intended to keep the body sides clean and aerodynamic.
- Before its public launch, GM supplied thousands of Berettas to rental fleets to conduct 'real-world' durability testing and refine the platform.
- The Beretta was the official pace car for the 1990 Indianapolis 500, though the production 'Indy' replicas were coupes rather than the pace car's convertible body.
