About the Ford Taurus X
The Ford Taurus X was a mid-cycle rebranding of the Ford Freestyle, introduced for the 2008 model year to align with Ford's then-new naming strategy. It featured a significant powertrain upgrade over its predecessor, replacing the underpowered 3.0-litre engine and CVT with a more robust 3.5-litre Duratec V6 and a conventional six-speed automatic. Built on the Volvo-derived D3 platform, it offered three rows of seating and a lower step-in height than traditional SUVs, providing superior car-like handling. Despite its practicality and improved performance, it was discontinued in 2009 to make way for the more stylised Ford Flex and the redesigned Explorer.
