About the Ford Prefect 100E
Introduced in 1953, the 100E generation marked a radical departure for the Ford Prefect, moving from the pre-war 'sit-up-and-beg' style to a modern three-box unibody design. While it retained the venerable 1172cc side-valve engine, the 100E featured significant chassis upgrades including MacPherson strut front suspension and hydraulic brakes. As the four-door counterpart to the two-door Anglia, it offered improved practicality and a more upmarket feel for the post-war middle class. Its simple mechanicals and lightweight construction made it a staple of British roads for decades and a popular choice for early hot-rodders.
