About the Ford Gran Torino
The 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport represents the peak of Ford's intermediate line during the transition from the muscle car era to the luxury-focused 1970s. Following a major 1972 redesign, the 1973 model introduced a prominent energy-absorbing front bumper to meet new federal safety standards, giving it a more aggressive, squared-off face. While the 'Sport' trim could be had with a variety of V8s, the Q-code 351 Cleveland Cobra Jet remained the performance choice, offering respectable power despite tightening emissions regulations. Its heavy-set chassis and coil-spring suspension prioritised a smooth, isolated ride over sharp handling, cementing its status as a classic American boulevard cruiser.
