About the Ford Five Hundred
Introduced as a replacement for the long-running Taurus, the Ford Five Hundred was built on the D3 platform, derived from Volvo's P2 architecture. It was designed to offer SUV-like interior space and a high 'Command Seating' position within a traditional sedan silhouette. While praised for its class-leading safety ratings and cavernous 21-cubic-foot trunk, it was widely criticised for its conservative, derivative styling and a lack of power from its sole V6 engine option. The model was short-lived, being facelifted and rebranded back to the Taurus nameplate for the 2008 model year under CEO Alan Mulally.
