About the Ford Escape
Launched for the 2001 model year, the first-generation Ford Escape was a landmark vehicle co-developed with Mazda. Unlike the truck-based SUVs that dominated the era, the Escape utilised a car-like unibody platform, offering superior handling and fuel efficiency for urban families. The 2.0-litre Zetec engine served as the entry-level powertrain, typically paired with a five-speed manual transmission. While it lacked the punch of the V6, it provided a rugged aesthetic and practical interior that helped the Escape become a best-seller in the burgeoning compact crossover segment.
