About the Ford Anglia 100E
The 100E generation marked a significant leap for Ford of Britain, replacing the 'sit-up-and-beg' pre-war styling with a modern three-box monocoque design. While the exterior was contemporary, the 'heart' remained traditional, utilizing a refined version of the 1172cc side-valve engine paired with a three-speed gearbox. The Deluxe trim, introduced in 1955, added chrome exterior detailing and a more comfortable interior to the basic package. It is remembered for its surprisingly advanced MacPherson strut front suspension, which provided handling that far exceeded its modest straight-line performance.
