About the Fiat Bravo 182

Launched in 1995 as a replacement for the Tipo, the Fiat Bravo (3-door) and Brava (5-door) duo represented a bold design shift for Fiat, winning the 1996 European Car of the Year award. The 1.6 SX was the mid-range sweet spot, featuring the 'Torque' engine known for its flexible power delivery and 16-valve head. While it shared underpinnings with the later Multipla and Marea, the Bravo was distinguished by its unique circular rear light clusters and sporty silhouette. Today, early examples are becoming increasingly rare in the UK, with survivors often maintained by enthusiasts of 90s Italian design.

Fiat Bravo 182 fun facts

  • The Bravo and Brava were designed to be distinct; the 3-door Bravo was aimed at younger, sportier buyers while the 5-door Brava targeted families.
  • The 1.6-litre 'Torque' engine used in this model was later adapted for use in the famously unconventional Fiat Multipla MPV.
  • Despite its stylish looks, the Bravo/Brava only achieved a two-star Euro NCAP safety rating during testing in 1998.
