About the Ferrari 365 GT4 BB
The 365 GT4 BB (Berlinetta Boxer) marked a radical shift for Ferrari, replacing the front-engined Daytona with a mid-mounted flat-12 layout inspired by their Formula 1 machinery. Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina, its wedge-shaped silhouette and distinctive triple tail lights defined the 1970s supercar aesthetic. The 4.4-litre engine was unique for its time, featuring belt-driven cams and a gearbox mounted beneath the crankshaft to keep the package compact. As the rarest and lightest of the Boxer series, it is highly prized by collectors for its purity and mechanical engagement, though its high centre of gravity requires respect at the limit.

Ferrari 365 GT4 BB fun facts
- Despite the 'Boxer' name, the engine is technically a 180-degree V12 as the opposing pistons move in the same direction rather than opposing each other.
- The 365 GT4 BB is easily identified by its six exhaust pipes and six tail lights, features that were simplified to four on the later 512 BB.
- It was the first road-going Ferrari to use timing belts instead of chains for its overhead camshafts.
