About the Daihatsu Charmant A30
The second-generation Daihatsu Charmant (A30/A60 series) was a conservative small executive saloon based heavily on the rear-wheel-drive Toyota Corolla E70 platform. While Daihatsu provided the bodywork and interior, the mechanicals were pure Toyota, featuring the robust 2T and 4A engine families. It was marketed as a more luxurious alternative to the Corolla, often featuring plusher upholstery and higher equipment levels for a lower price point. Today, it is a rare sight on European roads, valued by enthusiasts for its mechanical simplicity and its shared DNA with the legendary AE86.
