About the Citroën Traction Avant

The Citroën Traction Avant was a landmark in automotive engineering, being the first mass-produced car to combine front-wheel drive, a monocoque body, and independent torsion-bar suspension. The 11 BL (Légère) variant used the smaller body of the 7 CV but with the more powerful 1.9-litre engine, offering superior performance and handling for its era. Its low-slung profile and exceptional road-holding made it a favourite of both the French Resistance and post-war gangsters. Today, it is celebrated as the direct ancestor of the modern passenger car, prized by collectors for its historical significance and surprisingly modern driving dynamics.
