About the Chevrolet Camaro

The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro represents the final and most celebrated year of the first generation, featuring a flatter, wider look with updated sheet metal and a more aggressive V-shaped grille. The SS 350 package served as the high-performance small-block option, equipped with the L48 engine and heavy-duty suspension. While the Z/28 was built for the track and the 396 for the drag strip, the SS 350 offered a balanced muscle car experience for the street. Its timeless design and vast aftermarket support have made it a cornerstone of American car culture and a staple for collectors.

Chevrolet Camaro fun facts

  • The 1969 model year was extended to November due to production delays with the second-generation Camaro, resulting in a record production run for the year.
  • The 'SS' (Super Sport) package included non-functional air inlets on the hood, which were often replaced by the functional 'Cowl Induction' hood as an option.
  • Though the 350 V8 was rated at 300 hp, this was a 'gross' rating common to the era; net power figures used today would be significantly lower.
