About the BYD Flyer

The BYD Flyer was the first car produced by BYD Auto following its 2003 acquisition of Qinchuan Automobile. Based on the Suzuki Alto platform, it served as a low-cost entry point into the booming Chinese car market of the early 2000s. While basic in its construction and performance, it provided the manufacturing foundation for BYD to transition from a battery specialist to a global automotive giant. The 0.8-litre model is a quintessential example of the 'city car' segment that mobilised China's growing middle class.
