About the Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic
Designed by Jean Bugatti, the Type 57SC Atlantic is widely considered the most beautiful and valuable car in existence. Its dramatic teardrop body was inspired by the magnesium-alloy Aérolithe concept, retaining the iconic riveted dorsal seams because the original 'Elektron' material could not be welded. Only four were ever produced, featuring a lowered 'Surbaisse' chassis and a potent supercharged straight-eight engine. One of the four, the legendary 'La Voiture Noire', vanished during WWII and remains the most sought-after automotive mystery in history.

Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic fun facts
- The car's signature riveted fins were a design necessity for the magnesium-alloy prototype, but were kept on the production aluminium cars for their striking aesthetic.
- Only three of the four original Atlantics are accounted for today; the fourth, Jean Bugatti's personal car, has been missing since 1941.
- Fashion designer Ralph Lauren owns one of the surviving examples, which won Best of Show at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 1990.
