About the BMW X3 M F97

The F97 X3 M Competition marked a significant milestone as the first mid-sized SUV to receive a dedicated M treatment. It famously debuted the S58 engine, a high-revving twin-turbo straight-six that would later power the G80 M3 and G82 M4. The Competition trim adds 30 hp over the standard M, along with 21-inch wheels, an M Sport exhaust, and firmer suspension tuning. While praised for its sports-car-rivalling performance and sharp handling, early models were often noted for their exceptionally stiff ride quality.
