About the Benz Victoria
The Benz Viktoria (or Victoria) represents a pivotal moment in automotive history as Karl Benz's first four-wheeled vehicle, succeeding the three-wheeled Patent-Motorwagen. Its most significant innovation was the patented double-pivot steering system, which allowed the front wheels to turn at different angles, solving the stability issues of earlier four-wheelers. Powered by a massive, slow-revving horizontal single-cylinder engine, it was typically bodied as a Vis-à-Vis or Phaeton. While primitive by modern standards, its reliability was proven in 1894 when Baron Theodor von Liebieg completed a 2,500 km journey across Europe, the first long-distance road trip in a four-wheeled car.
