About the Audi Front
The Audi Front UW 220 was a pioneering effort by the newly formed Auto Union to modernise the Audi brand using front-wheel-drive technology. It utilised a Wanderer-sourced 2.0-litre straight-six engine that was rotated 180 degrees to drive the front wheels, a configuration denoted by the 'UW' (Umgekehrter Wanderer) designation. While technically advanced with independent front suspension, its high price and the novelty of front-wheel drive limited its commercial success. Today, it is highly regarded by collectors as a landmark in Audi's engineering history and a precursor to the brand's modern identity.
