About the Alfa Romeo Giulietta 116

Introduced in 1977, the Type 116 Giulietta (often called the Nuova Giulietta) was a radical departure from its predecessor, adopting a sharp, wedge-shaped profile designed by Ermanno Cressoni. It shared its sophisticated transaxle chassis with the Alfetta, placing the gearbox at the rear for near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution and exceptional handling for a four-door saloon. The 1.6-litre version utilised Alfa's legendary all-alloy Twin Cam engine fed by twin carburettors, offering a spirited driving experience. While rust claimed many examples, survivors are now prized for their mechanical purity and distinctive late-70s Italian aesthetic.
