About the Alfa Romeo G1

The G1 was the first model designed from the ground up after Nicola Romeo took control of A.L.F.A., marking the birth of the Alfa Romeo brand. Designed by Giuseppe Merosi, it featured a massive 6.3-litre inline-six engine, the largest ever fitted to an Alfa Romeo, intended to compete with luxury giants like Rolls-Royce. However, post-war economic instability and high fuel consumption meant it found no buyers in Italy, leading to the entire production run being exported to Australia. Today, only one complete example is known to survive, making it the oldest extant Alfa Romeo in the world.

Alfa Romeo G1 rarity in CarSpot

The Alfa Romeo G1 is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.

Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works

Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.

Alfa Romeo G1 fun facts

  • The only surviving G1 spent years on an Australian farm being used to round up cattle and chase kangaroos before its engine was repurposed to power a water pump.
  • Enzo Ferrari, who was a works driver for Alfa Romeo at the time, is said to have provided input during the development of the G1's engine.
  • Because it was so thirsty, the G1 was reportedly capable of only six miles per gallon, a major factor in its commercial failure during the post-WWI fuel crisis.
