About the Willys Jeep Station Wagon
Introduced in 1946, the Willys Jeep Station Wagon was a revolutionary departure from the wood-bodied 'woodies' of the era, featuring an all-steel body designed by Brooks Stevens for ease of mass production. The 2.2-litre 'Hurricane' F-head engine, introduced in 1950, provided a significant power boost over the earlier 'Go-Devil' unit, though it remained a utilitarian choice focused on durability. By 1955, under Kaiser ownership, the model was rebranded as the Utility Wagon to reflect its rugged, truck-based roots. It is widely regarded as one of the first true sport utility vehicles, offering a blend of passenger comfort and off-road capability that defined a new automotive segment.
