About the Volkswagen SP2

Developed by Volkswagen do Brasil to bypass strict import restrictions, the SP2 is a sleek sports coupé based on the Type 3 Variant chassis. Its low-slung steel body, designed by Márcio Piancastelli, was widely praised for its beauty, even drawing comparisons to contemporary Porsches. Despite its exotic looks, it was famously underpowered, leading to the local nickname 'Sem Potência' (Without Power). Today, it is a highly sought-after cult classic among air-cooled enthusiasts due to its rarity outside South America and its striking 1970s silhouette.
