About the Vauxhall Monaro
Imported from Holden in Australia, the Vauxhall Monaro was a rebadged version of the third-generation Monaro CV8. It offered a traditional muscle car recipe: a massive Chevrolet-sourced LS1 V8 engine up front, a manual gearbox in the middle, and drive sent to the rear wheels. While its styling was relatively understated, its performance was anything but, providing a charismatic and affordable alternative to contemporary European sports coupés like the BMW M3. Its heavy controls and tail-happy nature earned it a reputation as a 'brutalist' driver's car, eventually spawning the even more powerful VXR sub-brand in the UK.
