About the Toyota Altezza XE10
The Toyota Altezza RS200 was the performance-oriented Japanese domestic market (JDM) counterpart to the Lexus IS. While international markets received smooth inline-six engines, the RS200 featured the 'Black Top' 3S-GE BEAMS engine, a high-compression unit co-developed with Yamaha that utilised Dual VVT-i to reach a 7,800 rpm redline. Designed by Nobuaki Katayama of AE86 fame, the XE10 chassis offers a near 50/50 weight distribution and double-wishbone suspension, providing a mechanical purity often missing in its European rivals. It is highly sought after by collectors for its unique chronograph-style instrument cluster and its status as the only variant to pair the BEAMS engine with a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox.
