About the Singer Chamois

The Singer Chamois was the luxury-oriented sibling to the Hillman Imp, designed to compete with the Riley Elf and Wolseley Hornet. It featured a rear-mounted, all-alloy overhead-cam engine derived from a Coventry Climax design, canted at 45 degrees to maintain a low centre of gravity. Inside, the Chamois was distinguished by a polished walnut veneer dashboard, more comfortable seating, and additional instrumentation including a temperature gauge. While it shared the Imp's sharp handling and innovative opening rear window, the Singer badge offered a more genteel image for the Rootes Group's small car platform.
