About the Saab 9000
The Saab 9000 CS represented a significant facelift for the model in 1991, featuring a stiffened chassis and a lower, sleeker front profile. The 2.3-litre turbocharged engine, equipped with Saab's Trionic engine management system, became legendary for its massive mid-range torque, famously out-accelerating contemporary supercars in 50-75 mph gear pulls. Despite sharing its 'Type Four' platform with the Alfa Romeo 164 and Lancia Thema, Saab heavily re-engineered the car for superior crash safety and Swedish winter durability. It remains a cult classic, valued for its immense 1,600-litre cargo capacity and exceptionally comfortable 'orthopaedic' seats.
