About the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith

Introduced in 1946, the Silver Wraith was the first model produced at Rolls-Royce's new Crewe factory following World War II. It was offered exclusively as a rolling chassis, allowing prestigious coachbuilders like H.J. Mulliner, Park Ward, and Hooper to create bespoke bodies for an elite clientele. The 4.3-litre 'F-head' engine featured overhead inlet and side exhaust valves, a design chosen for its smoothness and reliability rather than outright power. As the last Rolls-Royce to be delivered primarily with custom coachwork, it represents the final era of true bespoke motoring before the move toward standardized steel bodies.
