About the Renault 6
Launched in 1968 as a more sophisticated alternative to the Renault 4, the Renault 6 combined the R4's rugged platform with a modern hatchback body inspired by the larger Renault 16. The 1.1 TL variant, introduced in 1970, addressed early criticisms of poor performance by adopting the 'Cléon-Fonte' engine and front disc brakes. By 1976, the model featured its definitive facelift with square headlights and a plastic grille. Though often overshadowed by the Renault 5, it remains a charming example of French utilitarian design, offering exceptional interior space and a supple long-travel suspension.
