About the Mitsubishi Outlander Mk1

The first-generation Mitsubishi Outlander, originally launched in Japan as the Airtrek, was a pioneer in the compact crossover segment. Built on the Lancer platform, it offered a car-like driving experience with the elevated seating and utility of an SUV. The 2.0-litre naturally aspirated model served as the entry-level variant in Europe, featuring a permanent all-wheel-drive system with a viscous coupling centre differential. While later generations became known for their hybrid technology, the Mk1 is remembered for its distinctive 'jet fighter' grille and mechanical simplicity.
