About the Mitsubishi i-MiEV
Launched in 2009, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) was a pioneering effort in the modern EV era, predating the Nissan Leaf and Tesla Model S in mass production. Based on the rear-mid-engine 'i' kei car platform, it features a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a rear-mounted motor, providing a low centre of gravity and surprising agility in urban environments. While its 62-mile EPA range and narrow track (widened for the US market) limited its appeal to city use, it remains a significant milestone in automotive history. Collectors value it as the first EV to reach 10,000 sales, a feat recognised by Guinness World Records.
