About the Mitsubishi Carisma

The Mitsubishi Carisma was a unique venture for the Japanese brand, co-developed with Volvo and manufactured at the NedCar facility in the Netherlands. Sharing its platform with the first-generation Volvo S40, it was designed to compete directly with European mainstays like the Ford Mondeo and Opel Vectra. While the 1.6 GLX was a mid-range, sensible choice, the model line was technically significant for introducing Europe's first mass-production petrol direct-injection (GDI) engines. It is remembered by collectors as a reliable, if understated, example of 1990s global automotive collaboration.
