About the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series R230
The SL 65 AMG Black Series was the most extreme iteration of the R230 generation, trading the standard car's folding hardtop for a fixed carbon-fibre roof and a wider, more aggressive body. It shed 250kg through extensive use of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic and replaced the complex Active Body Control suspension with a bespoke, manually adjustable coilover setup. The 6.0-litre V12 was fitted with 12% larger turbochargers, resulting in a staggering 670hp and a torque figure electronically limited to 1,000Nm to protect the gearbox. It remains a brutal, uncompromising collector's piece, known for its DTM-inspired looks and immense straight-line ferocity.
