About the McLaren W1

Unveiled on the 50th anniversary of McLaren's first F1 Constructors' title, the W1 is the third entry in the brand's '1' lineage. It features the all-new MHP-8 flat-plane crank V8 paired with a radial-flux electric motor, delivering 1,258 hp exclusively to the rear wheels. The car is defined by its radical 'Active Long Tail' aerodynamics, which can generate up to 1,000 kg of downforce in Race mode. With a focus on pure driver connection, it retains hydraulic steering and a lightweight carbon fibre Aerocell tub.

McLaren W1 rarity in CarSpot

The McLaren W1 is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.

Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works

Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.

McLaren W1 fun facts

  • The W1 features an 'Active Long Tail' rear wing that extends 300mm rearwards, effectively turning the rear of the car into a massive diffuser.
  • Unlike many modern hypercars, the W1 remains strictly rear-wheel drive to save weight and maintain steering purity.
  • The 8-speed transmission lacks a mechanical reverse gear; instead, the electric motor runs backwards to move the car in reverse.
