About the Lifan 320
The Lifan 320 gained international notoriety following its 2008 Beijing Auto Show debut for its striking resemblance to the R50-generation Mini Cooper. Despite the visual similarities, it was a budget-focused five-door hatchback powered by a 1.3-litre engine derived from Toyota architecture. It became a symbol of the 'copycat' era of Chinese automotive design, though Lifan maintained it was an independent work. The car's reputation was further impacted by a zero-star safety rating from Latin NCAP in 2014, highlighting the vast difference in engineering between it and the European car it emulated.
