About the LDV 400 Series

The LDV 400 Series was a heavy-duty evolution of the long-running Sherpa and Freight Rover 300 Series, produced in Birmingham by Leyland DAF Vans. This 2.5-litre naturally aspirated diesel variant utilised the robust Peugeot EN55 engine, known for its longevity if not its refinement. It served as a staple for the Royal Mail, British Telecom, and emergency services throughout the 1990s due to its simple mechanicals and high payload capacity. While largely replaced by the LDV Convoy in 1996, the 400 Series remained a common sight on British roads well into the 2000s.
