About the Jeep CJ-7
The Jeep CJ-7 was introduced in 1976 as a more civilised alternative to the short-wheelbase CJ-5, featuring a 10-inch longer wheelbase that improved stability and allowed for a factory automatic transmission. The 1980 model year is notable for the introduction of the Dana 300 transfer case, a component highly prized by off-roaders for its durability. While it retained the rugged leaf-spring suspension and open-air capability of its predecessors, the CJ-7's squared-off door openings and optional hardtop made it a viable daily driver. It remains a cornerstone of the collector market, bridging the gap between the spartan Willys era and the lifestyle-oriented Wrangler.
