About the Jaguar R2
After a difficult debut season, Jaguar made the Cosworth CR-3-powered R2 more conservative and reliable than the R1. Eddie Irvine was partnered by Luciano Burti until Pedro de la Rosa replaced the Brazilian after four races. There were only four points finishes, but one was Irvine's podium at Monaco, the team's first. Off track, an apparent deal to sign McLaren designer Adrian Newey collapsed, and team principal Bobby Rahal was replaced by Niki Lauda by the season's end, with Jaguar eighth in the constructors' championship on nine points.
