About the Ford Sierra XR4x4
Launched in 1985, the XR4x4 was Ford's answer to the growing demand for high-performance, all-weather grip, utilizing a permanent four-wheel-drive system developed by Ferguson Formula. Unlike the three-door XR4i it replaced, the XR4x4 used the more practical five-door bodyshell and a 34/66 rear-biased torque split to maintain a sporty driving feel. The 2.8-litre Cologne V6 provided smooth, linear power, making it a refined alternative to the more aggressive Sierra RS Cosworth. It remains a significant milestone in Ford's history for democratizing advanced drivetrain technology in a family car.
