About the Ford P100
The second-generation Ford P100 replaced the aging Cortina-based model in 1987, adopting the modern cab of the Ford Sierra while retaining a heavy-duty ladder chassis at the rear. Built in Portugal for the European market, it was designed to carry a full one-tonne payload, featuring a leaf-sprung rear axle and five-stud wheels derived from the Transit. The 2.0-litre 'Pinto' petrol engine was a low-compression variant of the 205 block, prized by modern collectors because it shares the same architecture as the legendary Sierra RS Cosworth. Today, the P100 has transitioned from a common site on British building sites to a sought-after classic, frequently modified with performance drivetrains.

Ford P100 fun facts
- The P100's 2.0-litre engine uses the '205' block, which is the same heavy-duty casting used as the foundation for the turbocharged Cosworth YB engine.
- While the front half is pure Ford Sierra, the rear half is a bespoke ladder frame chassis with a rear axle comparable to a contemporary Ford Transit.
- Despite its car-like appearance, the P100 was a genuine one-tonne pickup, a capability reflected in its name (100 being short for 1000kg).
