About the Ford Model Y

The Ford Model Y was the first 'Baby Ford', designed in Dearborn but intended specifically for the British and European markets where large American engines were heavily taxed. Launched at the 1932 Royal Albert Hall Ford Exhibition, it featured a downsized 933cc engine and styling reminiscent of the larger Model B. It was a massive success, helping Ford dominate the UK small car market during the 1930s. Its simple, robust construction made it a favourite for early hot-rodders and customisers in later decades.
